TANDEM STUDIOS

Gabriel

When Kyla contacted us back in the fall, we were so excited that she was interested in doing a maternity session AND a newborn session with us. Welcoming their first child in January, we planned a maternity session in early December with Kyla and her husband, Adam. However, we had a slight change in schedule. As portrait photographers, we're always on our toes, ready for changes that life throws at us and our clients.

We moved up their maternity session to the day after Thanksgiving and changed locations to Spring Point behind the Southern Maine Community College campus. Fort Preble on Spring Point was a new location we had scouted back in the early fall. When Kyla and Adam were on board with going to Spring Point, we were even more excited for their maternity session! It was bitterly cold, but Kyla and Adam tolerated the conditions bravely. You would never know how cold it was that day by looking at their photos. It appears to be a warm, autumn morning. We think that the parents-to-be were rewarded handsomely for braving the cold with some of the most amazing maternity photos we've taken thus far. These are only a few of our favorites.

And in early January, we met Gabriel! Our first glimpse was of the cute little guy bundled up in his car seat, proud parents all prepared for his debut session. Gabriel also earns the distinction of our first client in 2014. What better way to start off the new year than with a newborn session!

We started off making sure Gabriel was comfortable and kept the room as toasty as possible. And a little cuddle time with mom helped as well.

Patience is key with newborn sessions, so we always allow for plenty of time for feeding and cuddle breaks with the parents. Once Gabriel was content, we wrapped him up in a couple of different blankets. He favored his soft, light blue blanket and got quite comfortable in this set-up. We LOVE the crown on Gabriel! It's a simple prop, but a favorite of ours.

After some nap time on the beanbag set-up, Gabriel was quick to let us know that he preferred snuggling with mom and dad. Newborns rule, so we used the last part of our session to focus on more shots with mom and dad. The results were more than beautiful.

We could continue to say it again and again, but we feel so honored when we are asked to capture these very special moments in a family's life. When we look at Gabriel's photos, the love from Kyla and Adam for their newborn son shines through in every single one. Babies grow incredibly fast, so being able to look back on those first intimate moments with your child are that much more meaningful. We can already imagine how much Gabriel has grown in a month since we last saw him!

Welcome to the world, Gabriel! You are very, very much loved.
